#BigWestCares: The Big West Gives Back This Holiday Season
This holiday season, Big West student-athletes give back to show that #BigWestCares.
Cal Poly Athletics: Block P continued its holiday tradition with the Angel Tree gift-giving program through the Salvation Army. Each team, along with our Cheer and Dance teams, adopted a family (or families) and raised their own money to purchase the kids the gifts on their "wish lists." Altogether, CP sponsored 47 kids and the gifts were a wide array of scooters, star wars legos, Avengers toys/figurines, bicycles, dolls, games clothing and gift certificates.
Cal State Fullerton Athletics: The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team and other Titan athletes got into the holiday spirit this weekend, as they spent the day volunteering at the Fullerton Winter Market in downtown Fullerton on Saturday. Read more HERE.
CSUN Women’s Tennis: As part of their community service throughout the San Fernando Valley, the CSUN women’s tennis team partnered up with ACEing Autism to teach the game to a group of autistic children. Read more HERE.
UC Davis Athletics: Basketball fans had the opportunity to brighten a child’s holiday by donating a new, unwrapped toy at the Pavilion with UC Davis men’s basketball hosted William Jessup. All donations benefitted the UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Read more HERE.
UC Davis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee: The UC Davis SAAC officers teamed up with the Davis chapter of Athletes in Action and Challah for Hunger to host a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless. The 2016 holiday season marked the second year in a row the Aggies coordinated the event.
Long Beach State Athletics: The 49ers have participated in a number of philanthropic efforts this holiday season including volunteering at the Long Beach parade and hosting a holiday event for local children. Women’s basketball also organized a canned food drive while men’s basketball facilitated a Teddy-Bear-Toss for Spark of Love.
UC Irvine Athletics: UC Irvine athletics partnered with the UC Irvine Police Department for the annual Teddy Bear and Toy Drive and delivered the gifts to children receiving care at the UC Irvine Medical Center.
UC Irvine Women’s Basketball: The UC Irvine women's basketball team got in the holiday spirit as they recently adopted a family from the La Semilla Learning Center in Santa Ana. Read more HERE.
UC Riverside Baseball: UC Riverside baseball hosted a free clinic for Magnolia Center Little League in exchange for toys to be donated to Toys for Tots.
UC Riverside Men’s Basketball: Active and retired military personnel and first responders can enjoy UC Riverside Men's and Women's Basketball games free of charge this holiday season. Simply bring your work or military ID to the box office the day of the game. Family members are eligible for the group ticket price of $5 for men's games and $3 for women's. Read more HERE.
UC Santa Barbara Athletics and the UCSB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee: The Gauchos helped raise over $2,000 to support three families through the IV Holiday Angels project. The student-athletes provided clothes, books, toys, backpacks, school supplies, shoes and miscellaneous household items to each of the three families. The Gauchos were also able to gift bikes, helmets and a laptop for homework.
UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball: The Gauchos gave back this holiday season by donating toys to the Salvation Army and by visiting children at the local hospital. UCSB also partnered with Toys for Tots and hosted a Toy Drive at a home game on Dec. 14.
Hawai‘i Athletics: Hawai‘i volunteered at the River of Life Ministry to help serve meals to the less fortunate.
The Big West Conference: The Big West along with Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Irvine participated in Spark of Love’s annual Stuff-A-Bus at Honda Center in Anaheim on Dec. 16.
