1. ’Bows Win Second Straight Home Thriller On Green’s Heroics
Leland Green buried a three-pointer from the corner with 0.9 seconds remaining to lift the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team to an 80-77 win over CSUN Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. It was the second straight home thriller for the Rainbow Warriors who overcame a seven-point deficit to improve to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in the Big West. Full Story
2. Big West Honors 193 Student-Athletes On Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 193 student-athletes from 10 member institutions were honored on the 2016 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests. 3. UC Irvine Names Yossi Raz Men’s Soccer Head Coach
UC Irvine has announced a change in the leadership of its men’s soccer program with the naming of Yossi Raz as head coach. Raz takes over guidance of the Anteater program after four seasons as head coach at Cal Poly Pomona. He was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2014 after leading the Broncos to conference regular-season and tournament championships. Full Story
4. Big West Conference Tour Visited Cal Poly
The 2017 Big West Conference tour, to promote the Big West Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament, has begun and the most recent stop was at Cal Poly. While visiting the Central Coast, Assistant Director of Communications Olivia Phelps, caught up with Mustang seniors Ridge Shipley and Zach Gordon to relive the 2014 Big West Tournament in - Tour Diaries: Tournament Talk with Cal Poly.
