ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. UC Irvine Men’s Basketball Crowned 2016-17 Big West Champions
UC Irvine was not going to be denied on Senior Day as the Anteaters overwhelmed UC Davis, 79-49, to clinch the Big West Conference regular-season title and the league tournament’s No. 1 seed before 4,384 at the Bren Events Center Saturday. With the victory, UCI has won outright or shared the Big West regular-season championship three of the past four years.  Full Story

2. UC Davis Claims Big West Conference Women’s Basketball Title

For the second time in the program’s Division I history, the Aggies are champions of the Big West Conference’s regular season. UC Davis junior Dani Nafekh finished with a team-high 19 points -- 14 of those coming in the second half -- and the Aggies scored seven of the final nine points over the last 2:10, pulling away from host CSUN for a title-clinching, 63-55, victory over the Matadors on Saturday afternoon at The Matadome. 3. UH’s Coolen Captures 1,000th Career Win
The University of Hawaii softball team swept its Saturday doubleheader on Day Two of the Coca-Cola Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament and head coach Bob Coolen became just the 31st NCAA coach to reach the 1,000 career win mark with UH’s win over Charleston Southern. Behind UH pitcher Dana Thomsen, the Rainbow Wahine shutout the Buccaneers, 7-0 to give Coach Bob his milestone victory. Hawaii then defeated Toledo 4-1 in the last game of the day. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 8-7 overall on Saturday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.  Full Story

4. Pair Of Baseball Teams Picked Up Series Wins Over Nationally Ranked Opponents

Long Beach State took care of business in Raleigh, N.C., as the Dirtbags won the series over No. 7 North Carolina, 2-1. In similar fashion, CSUN downed No. 14 Vanderbilt, 2-1, during its trip to Nashville, Tenn. 

5. David Nwaba Signs 10-Day Contract with Los Angeles Lakers
Former Cal Poly men’s basketball guard David Nwaba became the first Mustang in the program’s Division I era to sign a contract with an NBA franchise following the Tuesday morning announcement that the Los Angeles Lakers inked the former All-Big West Conference selection to a 10-day deal.  Full Story
