ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Dirtbags Walk Off With Sweep of No. 5 Cal State Fullerton

Long Beach State capped off a terrific weekend series at Blair Field with a 1-0 walk-off victory over No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, winning in the bottom of the 10th inning on an RBI single from Domenic Colacchio. The Dirtbags improved to 13-9 with the win and dropped the rival Titans to 15-8 on the season. This was Long Beach State’s first sweep over Cal State Fullerton since 2002 and first sweep against a ranked opponent since 2008.  Full Story

2. UC Davis Claims Commissioners Cup Lead After Hoops Season

UC Davis used a strong basketball season to leapfrog to the top of the Commissioner’s Cup standings going into the spring campaign.  The Aggies recorded a 180.0-point average thanks to a regular season crown in women’s basketball as well as a second place finish in men’s basketball. That pushed their overall average to 118.6, a 24.6-point jump from the fall season. This also marks the first time the UCD athletic program sits atop the Commissioner’s Cup standings heading into the spring. Full Story

3. Big West Announces Baseball, Softball Package On ESPN3

A total of 11 Big West baseball games and eight softball contests will be showcased on ESPN3 this spring, the conference office announced Wednesday.  Every Big West institution will appear at least once on the schedule. The package begins on the opening weekend of baseball conference play.  Full Story

4. Nelson, Moneke Named Second Team NABC
All-District 9
UC Irvine senior Luke Nelson and UC Davis junior Chima Moneke have been named to the All-District 9 Second Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the 2016-17 season.  Full Story

5. Lakers Sign Cal Poly’s David Nwaba to Multi-Year Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard David Nwaba to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by General Manager Rob Pelinka. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.  Full Story
