ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Cal Poly Women’s Golf Wins Rose City Collegiate

Defending Women’s Golf Team Champion Cal Poly opened the 2017-18 season with a victory at the Rose City Collegiate.   A birdie by Mallory Muehlbauer on the 18th hole lifted the Mustangs to a one-stroke victory over host Portland State. Full Story

2. Titan Women’s Head Coach Demian Brown Notches 100th Career Win

Sunday night’s win by the Titans marked the 100th career win for head coach Demian Brown.  With the win, the Titans move to 8-2-2. Full Story

3. Mustang Duo Posts Impressive Cross County Finish

Swarnjit Boyal and Miranda Daschian led Cal Poly at Oregon’s Bill Dellinger Cross Country Invitational on Friday morning, each finishing within the top 25 at Springfield Golf Course. The meet featured eight teams ranked in the National Top 25 of the USTFCCCA polls. Full Story

4. Offense Comes Alive In Conference Play For UCSB Men’s Soccer

Prior to Big West play, UC Santa Barbara had only scored five goals in its first eight contests, but it matched its season goal total in just its first conference match of the season.  The Gauchos scored five goals against Cal State Fullerton to open league play with a 5-2 victory.  Two days later they notched three more to down UC Riverside 3-1 to improve to 2-0. 5. Former Mustang Goes 5-for-5 In MLB Game

Former Cal Poly outfielder Mitch Haniger finished his blazing September run at the plate with his first career five-hit game for the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.  Haniger went 5-for-5 with three doubles and one run scored against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Haniger’s five hits were one shy of the club-record six in a game by Raul Ibanez in a 2004 contest, also in Anaheim. Full Story
