Kekauoha, Maglio, White Deliver Impressive Performances


The trio of Harlee Kekauoha, Emily Maglio and Mahalia White notched women’s volleyball weekly honors.

Kekauoha Hits .420 In Conference Sweep

UC Irvine junior Harlee Kekauoha (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson HS) combined to hit .420 in four-set wins over Long Beach State and CSUN as she tallied her second Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award this season.

It was also the third career honor for the 6-0 opposite hitter.

Kekauoha averaged 4.63 kills, 2.75 digs and 0.38 aces as she helped the Anteaters extend their winning streak to three and improve upon a program best 15-2 start.

She recorded 15 kills and 11 digs to go along with two assists, one ace and one block against the Beach.  Kekauoha hit .333 for the match with just four errors in 33 attempts.

Against the Matadors, she tied her career high with 22 kills and added 11 digs.  Kekauoha posted her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the year.

With the score tied 16-16 in the fourth set versus CSUN, Kekauoha delivered an ace to kick off a small 2-0 run which propelled UCI to win the set and match.  She had a team-high five kills plus five digs in the final set against LBSU.

Maglio Throws Block Party With Career Highs

Hawai‘i senior Emily Maglio (Coquitlam, B.C., Canada (Pinetree HS) registered her third career Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back bests in blocks.

The 6-3 middle hitter set and then tied her new career high with 10 blocks against both UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.  She came within one kill of producing a double-double in both matches.

Maglio hit .302 (20-4-53) while averaging 2.50 kills, 2.50 blocks and 0.50 digs per set to help the Rainbow Wahine to a 1-1 record.

Maglio had nine kills on .364 hitting against UCSB.  In a tough five-set loss to the Mustangs, Maglio posted 11 kills and three digs.  Four of her 10 blocks were solo.  Of her 20 blocks this week, six were of the solo variety.

White Earns First Career Honor

UC Davis outside hitter Mahalia White (Canoga Park, Calif./Chatsworth Charter HS) continued her emergence with consecutive 20-kill performances, collecting her first career Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week award.

White tallied 43 kills over nine sets against CSUN and Long Beach State for a 4.78 per set average.  She hit .341 (43-14-85) and also averaged 1.22 digs and 0.67 blocks per set.

In a five-set defeat against the Matadors, White tied her career high with a team-high 20 kills on .415 hitting.  She added two aces, four digs and a career-high tying four blocks.

White established a new career best in kills against the Beach, finishing with 23 while swinging at a .273 clip.  She fired another ace to go along with a career-high seven digs and two blocks.
