Big West At A Glance

UC Irvine’s Yeo Wins Individual Co-Medalist Honors:
On October 3, Janet Yeo was crowned co-medalist at the Chip-N Club Invitational at the Wildnerness Ridge Golf Club. Yeo carded a three-round total of 218 (73-71-74) to match Nebraska’s Audrey Judd for individual co-medalist honors. It marked Yeo’s first career individual title and the first win for an Anteater women’s player since Hillary Packard won the Lady Aztec Invitational at the Salt Creek Golf Course on Feb. 17, 2009. Yeo led the tournament field with 14 birdies.

Cal State Fullerton’s Castillo Wins Event:

The Titans, as a team, finished in fourth place with a score of 6-under par 858.

Hawai’i Host Final Fall Events:
The University of Hawai’i women’s golf program closes out its fall season with a home event, the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, O’ahu October 31-November 1.  Participating in the two-day event are Boise State, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Hawai’i-Hilo, Hawai’i Pacific, Memphis, Nevada, Ole Miss, Pacific, Sacramento State and Toledo.  Last year Sacramento State won the team title with a seven-stroke advantage over BYU.  Sacramento State’s Julia Becker claimed individual medalist honors, while Raquel Ek, who tied for fifth, was the highest finisher for Hawai’i.  As a team, the Rainbow Wahine captured third place in the 2016 event.

The men’s team is slated to host the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate November 3-5 at the Ka’anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui.  The three-day event will feature 18 holes each day that begins at 8:30 am (HT) with a shotgun start.  Nineteen teams will be joining Hawai’i in the annual tournament but there will be a new champion crowned as defending champion Clemson is not participating in this year’s event.
