One Hawai‘i player and a UC Davis duo received weekly recognition for their efforts in Big West play.

Maglio Tabbed For First Career Honor

Hawai‘i senior Emily Maglio (Coquitlam, B.C., Canada/Pinetree HS) notched her first Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honor after hitting a combined .560 in the final two home matches of her collegiate career.

The 6-3 middle hitter averaged 5.33 kills and 1.33 blocks per set to help the Rainbow Wahine to a pair of sweeps over CSUN and Long Beach State.

Maglio, who has won four career Big West Defensive Player of the Week awards, was dominant in her last two appearances inside the Stan Sheriff Center.  She led UH with 32 kills and eight blocks over the two matches.

Against CSUN, she posted a match-high 13 kills on .478 hitting, committing just two errors in 23 attacks.  She added a match-high five blocks, including one solo.

Maglio returned against LBSU on Senior Night and fired off 19 kills with a sizzling .630 attack percentage.  She made just two errors in 27 swings.  She completed her stat line with three block assists and a pair of digs.

For the season, Maglio has led UH in kills 12 times and in blocking on 22 occasions.  She has recorded at least one block in 84 consecutive contests.

Bolko Claims Sixth Career Defensive Award

Leading the team in digs in two conference wins, UC Davis junior Malia Bolko (Benicia, Calif./St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS) secured her sixth career Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award.

The 5-8 libero totaled 43 digs in home victories over Cal State Fullerton (3-0) and UC Riverside (3-2), averaging 5.38 digs per set.

Bolko tallied 19 digs against the Titans, helping hold them to -.078 hitting, the lowest opposing average in the school’s Division I era and going back to at least 1998.  She added nine assists.

In the five-set marathon over the Highlanders, Bolko registered 24 digs, her 13th 20-dig match of the season.  That performance upped her season dig total to 497, the highest in the program’s Division I era and third in overall school history.  It also put her career dig total at 1,375, which ranks fifth in UC Davis history and just 2 shy of moving into fourth.

White Impactful In Aggie Wins

UC Davis outside hitter Mahalia White (Canoga Park, Calif./Chatsworth Charter HS) notched Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week accolades, averaging 3.25 kills and 0.63 blocks per set in two conference wins.

White was the Aggie No. 2 kill leader, putting away 13 kills against both Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.

It is her fourth freshman honor in the last five weeks.

White hit .258 in the three-set victory over the Titans, adding four digs and three blocks (one solo) to her total.  Her 13 kills against the Highlanders gave her double-digit kills in her 11th straight match.
