Ruddins, White, Nieto Collect Women's Volleyball Accolades

Two players added to their awards collection, while one earned her first honor of the 2017 campaign.

Potent Ruddins Earns Third Award Of Season

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Lindsey Ruddins (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel HS) notched her third Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honor after averaging 6.56 kills per set in a conference split.

The 6-2 outside hitter tallied 59 kills for the week as the Gauchos outlasted UC Irvine in five sets and fell to UC Davis in four.

Ruddins posted 32 kills on Friday against the Anteaters, her second 30-kill match of the season.  She exploded for nine kills on 12 swings in the decisive fifth set, and teamed up with Charlie Robinson for the match-clinching block.

She added 11 digs to secure her ninth double-double of the campaign.  She hit .375 for the match with just five errors in 72 attempts.

Ruddins hit .284 with 27 kills against UC Davis on Saturday.  She just missed on another double-double with nine digs while adding a pair of aces and five blocks, including two solo.

For the week, Ruddins hit .331 (59-13-139) while averaging 2.22 digs and 0.67 blocks per set.

Nieto Sets Career High In Digs

Helping Long Beach State to a pair of conference victories, senior Rachel Nieto (Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas HS) tied her digs career high in back-to-back matches for Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The 5-10 libero posted a career-best 22 digs in a five-set win over UC Riverside on Friday.  The next night against Cal State Fullerton, Nieto had another 22 scoops in just three sets as the Beach swept the Titans.

Nieto has recorded 13 double-figure dig matches this season.  She also had six assists and an ace in the two wins.

White Notches Fifth Freshman Honor

UC Davis outside hitter Mahalia White (Canoga Park, Calif./Chatsworth Charter HS) captured Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honor for the fifth time this season as she led the Aggies offensively in a conference split.

White’s five awards have come in the last six weeks.  She won for the third consecutive week.

She was the team’s kills leader in both contests – a three-set defeat at Cal Poly and a four-set win at UC Santa Barbara.

White had 11 kills, two digs and two blocks against the Mustangs.  She followed up with 22 kills on .385 attacking efficiency against the Gauchos, posting just seven errors in 39 swings.  White added two digs and three blocks in the contest.

White has 365 kills for the season, placing her No. 2 among freshmen in school history and trailing only Allison Whitson (370 in 2009) for the top spot.
