Toeaina Earns Bank Of Hawaii Classic MVP Honors

Hawai‘i senior Sarah Toeaina (Covington, Wash./Kentwood HS) notched her second career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award after claiming Most Valuable Player recognition at the Bank of Hawaii Classic.

A 5-11 guard, Toeaina averaged 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in victories over Northern Arizona (84-68) and San Diego (64-63).

Toeaina sank 15 of her 29 field goal attempts – 51.7 percent – and also made 6 of 7 from the foul line.  She added three assists and two steals.

In the championship game, Toeaina finished with a season-high 20 points to hand the Toreros their first loss of the season.  None of her six made free throws were more important than the game-tying and go-ahead ones with 3.5 seconds left in overtime for the Bank of Hawaii title.

Toeaina contributed 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting, adding seven rebounds (four offensive), an assist and two steals against the Lumberjacks.

She committed just one turnover on the week in 67 minutes of action.
