ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. UC Davis Women’s Basketball Remains Perfect At 6-0

Junior Morgan Bertsch finished with a game-high 25 points, while senior Rachel Nagel added a career-high 23, helping UC Davis to its best start in the program’s Division I history, claiming its sixth straight win after a, 79-53, victory on the road at SeattleU on Sunday afternoon at the Connolly Complex. Having opened with five straight wins for the third time since 2007-08, the Aggies improved to 6-0 with the victory, claiming their eighth consecutive road win in the process. The run is the longest since the 1994 squad began the year 7-0. Full Story

2. Trio Of Schools Selected For Volleyball Postseason

Cal Poly, the 2017 Big West Conference Champion, and the University of Hawai’i are headed to the postseason as announced by the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee.  Full Story

It was announced on Sunday that UC Irvine (22-7) accepted an invitation to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, which has been revived after its six-year run from 1989-1995. Full Story

3. Cal Poly’s Scott Cartwright Recipient of Labron Harris Sr. Award

Scott Cartwright, head men’s golf coach at Cal Poly for 17 years and a member of the Southern California PGA Section, has been named winner of the Labron Harris Sr. Award presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America in cooperation with The PGA of America. The Harris Award is presented to the college or high school coach and PGA Professional whose support of the game through teaching, coaching and involvement in the community has helped ensure the continued growth of the game of golf and who represents the finest qualities the game has to offer.  Full Story

4. Rowe’s Historic Night Leads Cal State Fullerton Men’s Basketball To Win Over Harvard

Sophomore Jackson Rowe shoots perfect from the field as he leads Cal State Fullerton to victory over Harvard 70-61. Rowe finished the night with a career-high 25 points while tying a 37-year old school record for best field goal percentage in a game shooting 10-10 from the field, including 5-5 from beyond the arc. He also tied for the team-high in rebounds with five. Full Story

5. Mustang Baseball Trio Spent Holidays in Hawaii -- for a Good Cause

Instead of spending the holidays with family and friends on the mainland, a trio of former Cal Poly baseball players went to Hawai’i. It was all for a good cause, however.  Mitch Haniger, Mike Miller and Joey Wagman, working with a California nonprofit, are working to renovate youth baseball fields in Hilo on the Big Island.  Full Story
