Moneke Spurs Aggies To Big Road Win Over Pac-12 Program
UC Davis senior Chima Moneke (Canberra, Australia/Northeast Community College) averaged a double-double in two wins, including the program’s first over a Pac-12 team in 12 years, to earn his second Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season.
The 6-6 forward averaged 18.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks to help the Aggies topple Northern Colorado (56-51) at home and Washington State (81-67) on the road.
Moneke contributed 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal in the 14-point blowout win over the Cougars, which entered the game undefeated at 6-0. He now has 19 double-doubles for his career.
It was Moneke’s conference-leading fifth double-double in the last six games, which was key in getting UC Davis its first win over a Pac-12 team since Dec. 4, 2005 – a 64-58 decision over Stanford.
Moneke had 17 points, a season and game-high 16 caroms, a steal and a swat in the victory over Northern Colorado as the swept the season home-and-home series. Moneke got to the foul line a season-best 16 times and scored 12 of his 16 points in the decisive second half.
Moneke leads the Big West in rebounds at 11.4 per game.
