A pair of seniors from CSUN and UC Santa Barbara earned Big West Men’s Co-Golfer of the Month accolades for January after posting top five finishes at the Pepperdine Waves Challenge.
Felix Mory (Bourghelles, France/Santa Barbara CC) and Brandon Bauman (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) recorded identical 223 scores to tie for fourth in the field of 78 participants.
Both golfers battled extremely windy conditions throughout the opening 36 holes at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.
But Mory managed rounds of 75 and 78 before closing the tournament with a final 18-hole score of 70. He was one of just five golfers to shoot an under par score on the final day. It was Mory’s third top-10 finish in five tournaments in 2017-18. His final round 70 represented his fifth round of 70 or better this season.
CSUN placed 13th out of 15 teams at the Waves Challenge.
Bauman carded his 54-hole total of 223 after posting rounds of 78-73-72 to lead the Gauchos to a second place team finish.
His even par 72 in the final round moved him up four spots in the individual standings. It was his second career Big West Golfer of the Month award.
Mory earned his first career nod.
Others nominated: Mark Cobey (Cal State Fullerton); Andres Gonzalez (Long Beach State)
