Big West Honors 191 Student-Athletes On Fall All-Academic Team
2017 Big West Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 191 student-athletes from nine member institutions and an associate men’s soccer member were honored on the 2017 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
Women’s soccer had 58 all-academic honorees, followed by women’s volleyball with 39. Women’s cross country combined for 35 representatives, men’s soccer had 31, and women’s cross country notched 28.
Six schools were clustered together with more than 20 all-academic representatives. UC Davis led the way with 27. UC Santa Barbara registered 26, CSUN had 24 and UC Irvine 22. UC Riverside and Hawai‘i tied with 21. Cal Poly posted 18 honorees, while Cal State Fullerton with 14 and Long Beach State with 10 also were well represented. Men’s soccer associate member Sacramento State named eight student-athletes to the fall team.
