ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Fullerton’s Dockins Throws No-Hitter Against USD

History was made on Thursday night as freshman Taylor Dockins threw a no-hitter for Cal State Fullerton (4-6) against the University of San Diego (6-6).  For Dockins, it’s the 57th no-hitter in program history and first Fullerton no-hitter since Jasmine Antunez in 2013.    Full Story

2. UC Davis Claims Back-To-Back Big West Women’s Basketball Titles

Senior Dani Nafekh finished with a game-high 17 points to lead three Aggies in double figures, and UC Davis clinched its second consecutive Big West Conference title and, with it, the top seed in the league tournament, following a, 66-56, victory over UC Irvine on Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion.  UC Davis, which also earned the league’s automatic berth into the Women’s National Invitation Tournament with the regular season crown, improved to 23-4 overall and 13-1 in Big West play, setting the program’s Division I record for home victories with 13 and clinching its 14th consecutive home win over a conference opponent in the process.  Full Story

3. Men’s Volleyball Kicked Off Conference Play; Big West Announces ESPN3 Men’s Volleyball Package
The inaugural conference season for men’s volleyball began last weekend and UC Santa Barbara sits atop the standings at 1-0, while UC Irvine and Hawai’i split the series between them and are tied for second at 1-1.  UC San Diego suffered the loss against the Gauchos to fall to 0-1.  CSUN and Long Beach State begin league play this week.

The Big West Conference announced a package of six men’s volleyball contests to air on ESPN3 and WatchESPN. Tipping off the schedule will be the conference openers for No. 1 Long Beach State and No. 11 CSUN at the Matadome on Friday, March 2.  First serve will be at 7:00 p.m. (PT). Full Story

4. Cal Poly/LBSU Baseball Post Wins Against Top 10
Junior center fielder Alex McKenna (pictured above) singled to right-center field with two outs in the ninth inning, snapping a 3-3 tie and giving Cal Poly a 4-3 upset over No. 4 Arkansas on the opening day of the Tony Gwynn Legacy on Friday inside San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium. The win was Cal Poly's first over a top-five team since the opening series of the 2009 season when the Mustangs swept a doubleheader against No. 3 Rice, 10-3 and 7-6, in Baggett Stadium. Cal Poly also defeated No. 1 Cal State Fullerton 7-1 in 2005, also at home.  Full Story

Following Friday's rainout, Long Beach State (2-4) split a Saturday doubleheader against No. 7 TCU (3-2) in its first road action of the season. The Dirtbags were able to grind out a hard-fought, come-from-behind 3-2 victory in game one, but couldn't keep TCU's offense in check in an 8-3 loss in game two. Full Story

5. UH Beach Volleyball Goes 3-1 In Season-Opening Tournament Against Ranked Opponents

The No. 5 University of Hawai’i beach volleyball team successfully opened the 2018 season with a pair of wins over No. 17 Stanford and a 1-1 mark against No. 3 UCLA and at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex to kick off the 2018 season.
