ICYMI: Here is a recap of the Big West Conference Spring Championships….In Case You Missed It!

1. Long Beach State, the Big West Conference Regular and Tournament Champion, Crowned National Champions

Top-ranked Long Beach State showed its grit and determination on Saturday night as the Beach defeated No. 3 UCLA, 3-2 [25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12], to capture the 2018 National Championship. The National Title is now the second in program history as the 2018 squad joins the 1991 team as the only two men’s volleyball programs at Long Beach State to win a National Championship. Head coach Alan Knipe secured his first National Title as a head coach, and second overall as he was a junior on the 1991 squad.  Full Story

2. Hawaii Notches First Women’s Tennis Tourney Title

Fourth-seeded Hawai‘i completed its journey to a first Big West Women’s Tennis Tournament championship with a 4-2 victory over third-seeded Cal State Fullerton at Indian Wells Tennis Garden Sunday. After defeating No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara in a semifinal match that lasted over four hours, the ‘Bows recuperated to defeat a Titan squad making the program’s first finals appearance. Full Story

3. UC Santa Barbara Men’s Tennis Chalks Up Another Tourney Title

UC Santa Barbara tied a conference record for consecutive titles with a 4-0 win over Cal Poly in the championship match of the Big West Men’s Tennis Tournament at Indian Wells Tennis Garden Sunday.  The Gauchos (18-6) won their fourth straight championship, matching the record the program initially set from 2006-09.  UCSB has won nine of the last 13 tournament titles in Indian Wells.  It was the 12th championship in school history. 4. Long Beach State Wins Big West Women’s Golf Championship; Yu Grabs Medalist Honors

Long Beach State captured its first Big West Conference title since 2009 after firing a three-round total of 879 at the 2018 Big West Conference women’s golf championship at Strawberry Farms Golf Course (par 71, yardage 6,038). Long Beach State shot a team total of 290, the low round of the day, on day three to extend its lead to 10 strokes over second place UC Davis (889), claiming the crown. Full Story

5. UC Irvine Wins Eighth Big West Men’s Golf Title

In a round that came down to the final putt, UC Irvine narrowly secured its eighth Big West Conference men’s golf title with a one-stroke advantage over top-seeded UC Davis.  Playing on the “Ike” Eisenhower course (par 72, 6,989 yards) at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in City of Industry, Calif., the ‘Eaters entered the final round tied for first with host Cal State Fullerton, but the Titans struggled on day three. UC Davis surged in the final round but UC Irvine managed to hold off the Aggies with a three-round total of 5-under 852.  Full Story

6. UC Irvine Tops Hawai’i In Sudden Victory Overtime Thriller For Tournament Title

After a tense back and forth affair, No. 3 UC Irvine finally pushed through in sudden victory overtime to win the Big West Tournament title over No. 1 Hawai’i. It’s the second consecutive title for the Anteaters, seventh overall and the first victory over the ‘Bows in the championship match after two prior defeats. Full Story

7. Hawai’i Three-Peats To Claim Beach Volleyball Tournament Title

Hawai’i claimed its third-straight Big West Beach Volleyball Championship after sweeping Long Beach State 5-0 to open day two of the Tournament.  The SandBows would then face the Beach again in the championship match and defeated LBSU 4-1 to three-peat.  The ‘Bows remain undefeated in Big West Tournament action all-time, and have won 30-straight matches, a program-best.
