Five #BWCBasebal players were taken on Day 2 of the 2018 #MLBDraft, including Pitcher of the Year Colton Eastman (CSF), Player of the Year Alex McKenna (CP), and Defensive POY Nick Meyer (CP).

Cal State Fullerton right-handed pitcher Colton Eastman, the 2018 Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year, was the first Big West Conference player taken in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft, as he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 107th overall pick in the fourth round. The junior from Fresno, Calif., led a group of five Big West student-athletes selected on day two of the MLB draft.

A pair of Cal Poly Mustangs followed Eastman with 2018 Big West Conference Field Player of the Year Alex McKenna drafted in the fourth round and 2018 Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year Nick Meyer nabbed in the sixth. The 132nd player selected, McKenna, a center fielder from Canyon Country, Calif., was chosen by the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.  Junior catcher Meyer was picked by the New York Mets as the 170th overall selection.

Junior right-handed hurler Andrew Quezada was the second Titan pitcher of the day to hear his name called, going in the seventh round (216th overall pick) to the Colorado Rockies.  For Eastman and Quezada, it marks the second time they’ve been drafted. Eastman was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 30th round in 2015, while Quezada was drafted in the 20th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017.

Closing out day two of the draft for the league was Long Beach State’s Jarren Duran. The junior second baseman from Buena Park, Calif., was selected in the seventh round, 220th overall pick, by the Boston Red Sox.

Rounds 11-40, to complete the draft, will continue on Wednesday, June 6.
