UC Irvine Wins Eighth Big West Title: 
In a round that came down to the final putt, UC Irvine narrowly secured its eighth Big West Conference men’s golf title with a one-stroke advantage over top-seeded UC Davis.  Playing on the “Ike” Eisenhower course (par 72, 6,989 yards) at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in City of Industry, Calif., the ‘Eaters entered the final round tied for first with host Cal State Fullerton, but the Titans struggled on day three. UC Davis surged in the final round but UC Irvine managed to hold off the Aggies with a three-round total of 5-under 852, locking down its first conference crown since 2015.

For the second straight day, the Aggies fired a low-round score of 280 for a total of 853 to sit one stroke back in second place.  UC Santa Barbara, the 2017 Big West champion, secured the third spot after carding 860.  Long Beach State was fourth at 863 while host Cal State Fullerton (866) fell on some bad luck and dropped to fifth.  Cal Poly notched the sixth slot with a score of 876 and was followed by CSUN (879), UC Riverside (885) and Hawai’i (907).

UC Santa Barbara’s Brandon Bauman, who led the tournament from day one, tied UC Davis’ Ryan Han for the top spot with an 8-under 208. Han clinched individual medalist title and the conference’s automatic qualifier following a two-hole playoff.  UC Irvine’s Davis Kim and Cal State Fullerton’s Martin Manalo tied for third after carding 5-under 211.  Kim’s teammate, Jonathan Kang, rounded out the top five with a 4-under 212.

Men's NCAA Golf Results: The UC Irvine men’s golf team wrapped up the 2017-18 campaign with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Pacific Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton with a 54-hole score of 872 (290-293-289).  Senior David Kim and junior Ramiz Jamal paced the ‘Eaters as they tied for 30th at even-par 216.  Ryan O’Connor tied for 50th with a total score of 220. Sophomore Jonathan Kang tied for 54th at 221, while senior Jonathan Young tied for 72nd with a 229.

UC Davis junior Ryan Han shot a 1-under-par 71 on the final day of the NCAA Stockton Region men’s golf tournament, held at The Reserve at Spanos Park, finishing the tournament as part of a four-way tie for 12th place with a 4-under total of 212 strokes. CSUN senior Felix Mory wrapped up his collegiate career finishing tied for 30th at the NCAAs. Mory finished with a round of 73 which left him one-over for the day and even-par 216 for the Regional.

Big West Announces Men’s Golf All-Conference: 
The Big West Conference announced the 2018 men’s golf awards  and CSUN’s Felix Mory nabbed Big West Men’s Golf Player of the Year honors while UC Davis’ Thomas Hutchison earned Big West Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year.  UC Irvine head coach Paul Smolinski was named Big West Men’s Golf Coach of the Year.

Long Beach State Wins Big West Women’s Golf Championship; Yu Grabs Medalist Honors: 
Long Beach State captured its first Big West Conference title since 2009 after firing a three-round total of 879 at the 2018 Big West Conference women’s golf championship at Strawberry Farms Golf Course. LBSU shot a team total of 290, the low round of the day, on day three to extend its lead to 10 strokes over second place UC Davis (889), claiming the crown.  UC Irvine finished third after firing 897, Cal Poly placed fourth with a score of 902 and was followed by Hawai’i (903).  The UC Riverside Highlanders shot their best round of the tournament today at 296 to finish with a three-round total of 915 to place sixth.  Cal State Fullerton was one stroke back at 916 and CSUN rounded out the eight-team field with a score of 922.

Long Beach State’s Jennifer Yu took the lead on day one with a one-under 70 and never looked back as she went on to capture the individual medalist honor with a three-round total of even-par 213. This marked Long Beach State’s first individual title at the conference championship since Kay Hoey nabbed the title in 2007, and Yu’s first-ever individual medalist title. UC Irvine’s Janet Yeo shot one-under 70 in the final round to finish second with a total of 216. 

LBSU, UCD Duo Closed Out Season At NCAAs:
Long Beach State Women’s Golf completed its season with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Regional in San Francisco, Calif. The Beach collectively shot a 905, 41-over par in their third visit to the NCAA postseason. Jennifer Yu paced the team with a three-round score of 219 to finish tied for 33rd.  Haley Tygret carded 227 to finish T69th, while Holland Shourds and Cara Barker tied for 79th with a score of 203.  Rounding out the five-person team was Maria Davis, who shot 242 to grab 94th.

Aggies Christine Danielsson and Samantha Hutchison ended 2018 competing in their first-ever postseason experience at TPC Harding Park. For the tournament, Hutchison tied for 68th with an 11-over (227) with Danielsson finishing 85th at 17-over (233).

Big West Announces Women’s Golf All-Conference: 
UC Davis’ Samantha Hutchison was named  2018 Big West Women’s Golf Player of the Year and Cal Poly’s Caroline Cantlay earned the Big West Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year honor.  Big West Women’s Golf Co-Coach of the Year honor was awarded to Hawai’i’s Stephen Bidne and Long Beach State’s Joey Cerulle.
