ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!


1. Big First Half Propels UCSB Past No. 15 UCLA, 3-1

The UC Santa Barbara men’s soccer team scored three goals within seven minutes in the first half, including two from Rodney Michael, to topple No. 15 UCLA 3-1 in front of 5,235 fans on Saturday night at Harder Stadium.  With the win, the Gauchos (5-3) remain a perfect 4-0 at Harder Stadium this season while picking up their second win in the past three meetings against the rival Bruins, who fall to 4-3.  Full Story


2. LBSU’s Gonzales Ties School Goals Record

Ashley Gonzales scored the 33rd goal of her career to put the Beach into the lead against Loyola Marymount and LBSU took a 2-1 lead into halftime, but the Lions were able to head home a second goal and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.  Gonzales now owns the modern era for career goals scored with 33, and with one more will hold the record on her own, passing Janet Fettig who scored 33 goals during from 1984 to 1986 until the program went on hiatus.  Full Story


3. Hawai'i Volleyball Comes Back To Down UC Irvine In Five Sets

The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team (6-5, 2-0 Big West) showed its grit and determination, rallying from two sets down to record a reverse-sweep over UC Irvine, 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-11. McKenna Granato recorded her best match thus far this year with season-highs of 24 kills, 15 digs and five service aces to lead the scrappy Hawai’i team to its first five-set victory of the year. Casey Castillo added 13 kills while McKenna Ross came into the match in the third set from off the bench to pound a career-high 11 kills in Sunday’s match at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif.  Full Story


4. UCD’s Hutchison Fires 64 To Lead Windon Memorial

Sophomore Thomas Hutchison shot a career-best round of 64 to lead off UC Davis’ Sunday action at the Windon Memorial Classic men’s collegiate golf tournament, held at the Knollwood Club. He finished the day with a 36-hole total of 137, leaving him atop the 92-man individual leaderboard heading into Monday’s final round.  Full Story


5. Cal State Fullerton Celebrates 2017-18 Commissioner Cup

Cal State Fullerton celebrated winning the 2017-18 Commissioner's Cup on Sunday at the men's soccer match.
