Freshman Amadou Sow helped UC Santa Barbara to one of the conference’s most impressive victories on the non-conference schedule, earning his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor.
• Sow scored a career-high and game-high 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and a blocked shot as the Gauchos handed San Francisco only its second loss of the season.
• The 6-foot-9 forward helped UCSB fight back from a couple of early 10 point deficits, scoring 18 of his 21 points in the first half against the Dons, which had received votes in both the USA Today and Associated Press polls entering the week.
• Sow is one of five UCSB players averaging double figures in scoring (10.2 ppg). He leads the Gauchos with 6.5 rebounds per game.
• Sow’s first career 20-point game came on 9-of-13 field goal shooting. He made 3-of-6 attempts at the free throw line.
