Spring Season Opens In January:
Just a few schools are opening the 2019 spring season with a January event.  Kicking things off are the  Cal State Fullerton women are slated to compete in a dual event versus Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, January 26.  The following day the Long Beach State and UC Irvine women head to Palm Springs, Calif., for the Mission Hills Invitational, a two-day event. The Beach men are also competing in a January tournament, the Arizona Intercollegiate, January 28-29.

UCI, UH Men Set To Host February Tournaments:
The UC Irvine men’s golf team opens the spring season hosting the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational February 11-12 at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.  Joining the Anteaters from the Big West Conference are Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN and UC Santa Barbara.

Hawai’i is set to host a pair of annual events - Amer Ari Invitational and John A. Burns Intercollegiate - in February.  First up the Rainbow Warriors team up with Hawai’i-Hilo to host the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings Course in Waikoloa, Hawai‘i.   Joining Hawai’i on the par-72, 7, 074 yard course are Auburn, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i-Hilo, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Osaka Gakuin (Japan), Pacific, San Jose State, Stanford, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UC Davis, USC and Utah. 

The John A. Burns Intercollegiate is slated for February 21-23 at the Kaua’i’s Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Kaua‘i, the site of the 2019 Big West Conference Men’s Golf Championship. CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are headed to the island to participate in the three-day event.

UCR, LBSU Play Host In February:
UC Riverside’s annual Battle of the Rock takes place at the Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif., on February 11-12.  A trio of Big West schools, Cal Poly, CSUN and Hawai’i, will be joining the Highlanders. Closing out the month is The Beach, who will host The Gold Rush, February 25-26 at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.

Celebrating 50/35: The 2018-19 season marks the 50th anniversary for men’s sports in the Big West Conference, and the 35th for women’s.  All season long the Big West Conference will celebrate the history of all 16 conference-sponsored sports.

Did You Know?
• Of the current members, Long Beach State holds the most individual medalist honors with eight (1972, 1973, 1976, 1982, 1983, 2004, 2006, 2007).

• San Jose State dominated the conference when the Spartans were in the conference, claiming 10 women’s golf team and individual titles (1987, 1988, 1989, 1998, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996). Head coach Mark Gale garnered nine league coach of the year accolades.
