ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Men’s Volleyball - Hawai’i Earns Pair of Wins Over No. 8 Stanford; UCSB Trumps No. 3 BYU Twice

The University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team made it look easy once again in another straight-set win over No. 8 Stanford, on Super Bowl Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores for the finale of a two-match non-conference series were 25-15, 25-18, 25-16. Full Story

For the second time in as many nights, the No. 9 UC Santa Barbara men’s volleyball team swept past No. 3 BYU in a dominant 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 27-25) fashion in Rob Gym. UCSB improves to 9-3 with the win and have now won six consecutive matches, all coming against American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-15 ranked opponents. Full Story

2. Nichole Fry Named To USA Softball Player Of The Year Watch List

Senior Nichole Fry was named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List as announced by USA Softball on Wednesday. Fry was a first-team All-Big West selection  as a junior in 2018. Full Story

3. Diane Ties School D-I Scoring Record But CSUN Falls at Fullerton

On a night where freshman Lamine Diane tied the Matadors’ all-time Division I scoring record, CSUN Men’s Basketball nearly erased a 21-point halftime deficit in a 78-71 defeat to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday evening at Titan Gym. Diane scored 29 of his 39 points in the second half while he pulled down 13 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. Sophomore Terrell Gomez added 14 points while freshman Ron Artest III registered eight points and six rebounds. Full Story

4. UCSB Women’s Water Polo Dominates ASU Cross Conference Challenge

The 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara women’s water polo team was perfect at the ASU Cross Conference Challenge in Tempe, Ariz., which included matches against four Top 25 teams.  The Gauchos now own a league-leading 9-1 record to kick off the 2019 season.  Full Story

5. #BigWestCares: 12th Annual Coin Drive Set To Kick Off This February

Now in its 12th year, the Big West Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is prepped to begin the annual Coin Drive this February.  The Coin Drive is a group effort as each school’s SAAC collects coins during the month of February to donate to a charity of its choice. Full Story
