Gnago Averages Double-Double in Two Highlander Wins
DAPHNE GNAGO, UC RIVERSIDE •
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Freshman • Forward • Thomery, France • INSEP HS
Freshman Daphne Gnago helped UC Riverside to a conference road sweep in earning her first career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
• Gnago averaged 13.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals as the Highlanders won a pair of hard fought games. She shot an impressive 75.0% (12-of-16) from the field overall.
• In a 75-68 double overtime win at Cal Poly, Gnago produced 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals in 44 minutes of floor time. She stepped up in a big way after UCR’s two leading scorers – Jannon Otto and Malou De Kergret – had fouled out much earlier in the game. Otto picked up her fifth foul in the second quarter while De Kergret found the bench in the third.
• A 6-foot forward, Gnago poured in a season-high 17 points on 8-of-8 shooting in Saturday’s 66-65 thriller over UC Irvine. She added 12 rebounds (4 offensive) to secure her third double-double of the season.
• Gnago’s inspired play, which included a pair of blocks and a steal, helped put the Highlanders in position to defeat UCI on a shot by Tianna Eaton with six seconds to go.
OTHERS NOMINATED: Hana Vesela (Cal Poly); Raina Perez (Cal State Fullerton); Meghann Henderson (CSUN); Naomi Hunt (Long Beach State); Karley Eaton (UC Davis); Jordan Sanders (UC Irvine)
