ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Big West Basketball Tournament Schedules Announced

Pacific Surfliner is the presenting sponsor for the 44th annual Big West Men's Basketball Tournament, which tips off with all four of Thursday's quarterfinals on ESPN3. Eight different schools have won the title in the eight years the tournament has been held at Honda Center.  Full Story

The madness is set for Big West Women's Basketball as the 2019 Tournament field is set. Pacific Surfliner is the presenting sponsor for the 36th Tournament in league history, as play is set to begin Tuesday at UC Irvine. Full Story

3. UH’s Hitchcock Strikes Out Career-High 15 In 3-0 Shutout Over Niagara

The University of Hawai’i softball (14-5, 0-0 Big West) shut out Niagara, 3-0 in Game 8 of the Outrigger Resorts Spring Fling Tournament on Friday night. Senior pitcher Brittany Hitchcock recorded a career-high 15 strikeout en route to a complete-game shutout on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Hitchcock at one point struck out 10-straight batters between the first and the fourth innings. She faced just 22 batters, one over the minimum for the game. Full Story

3. Josh Tuaniga Eclipses 4,000 Career Assists in No. 1 LBSU’s Record-Breaking Sweep of No. 8 Stanford

Senior setter Josh Tuaniga led the top-ranked Long Beach State men’s volleyball program to a record-setting .655 attack percentage on his way to passing the 4,000-career assists milestone as the Beach rolled past No. 8 Stanford, 3-0 [25-18, 25-13, 25-14] at the Walter Pyramid on Friday night. The Beach (16-0) offense was on fire as the team never hit below .455 in a single set and finished the match with an attack percentage of .655 (43-5-58) which is a new LBSU single-match hitting percentage record.

4. #BigWestCares: SAAC Raises More Than $15,000 For 12th Annual Coin Drive

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised more than $15,000 to finish the 12th annual Big West Coin Drive. The Coin Drive, which takes place each February, unfolds on the nine conference campuses with the respective SAAC’s collecting donations for a designated charity. For the second-consecutive year, UC Riverside raised the most money with $4,328.60 going to the Riverside Community Settlement Association. The Highlanders have now raised over $18,000 in the coin drive’s 12-year history. Full Story

5. Big West Announces 2018 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year

The 2018 Big West Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year from the nine conference institutions will be honored at a special banquet on Thursday, March 14 at the Mariott Suites in Garden Grove, Calif.  Each institution selected its own honorees.  Full Story
