The second-seeded UC Santa Barbara Gauchos narrowly escaped a late run by No. 7 CSUN in the first of four Big West Confernece men's basketball quarterfinal contests at Honda Center. The Gauchos led by as many as 14 points in the first half. Ar'Mond Davis paced the Gauchos with 19 points and Amadou Sow posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Santa Barbara has won five of its last six games and will play a 9:00 p.m. semifinal game at Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday. The opponent will be known later on Thursday.
No. 3 Cal State Fullerton Outlasts No. 6 UC Davis In Overtime To Advance To Semis
No. 3 Cal State Fullerton defeated No. 6 UC Davis 75-71 in overtime to remain in the Big West Tournament title hunt. The Titans advance to the semifinals, Friday. Senior guard Khalil Ahmad led all scorers with 32 points and added three rebounds. Kyle Allman Jr. tabbed 20 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Regular season champion and top seeded UC Irvine downed No. 8 UC Riverside, 63-44, in the quarterfinals of the Big West Confernece men's basketball tournament at Honda Center to move one step closer to the tournament title. Max Hazzard and Evan Leonard led the Anteaters with 13 points a piece.
UC Irvine will face the winner of No. 4 Hawai'i and No. 5 Long Beach State in Friday's 6:30 pm semifinal showdown.
